The Palestinian Folklore Program

The Center has achieved great success in spreading knowledge and understanding of Palestinian Folklore and culture among children. Children are attracted to this type of dance and music. Many of the Hakaya dancers, (the dancing and singing group in Ghirass) teach Palestinians Folklore in their schools.

Hakaya is a group of talented and committed children, interested in learning Palestinian Folklore. The group consists of 50 children from 8-16years old, divided by age into three groups. Hakaya groups have performed frequently on local and national occasions. They were rated first place in 1999 and 2005 at festivals held by the Ministry of Sport and Youth. The Hakaya group plays a vital role in connecting the Center with the community as many local organizations invite them to present Palestinian folklore on special occasions. It also helps to make international connections through the cultural exchange program.
